Photography has evolved dramatically in the last decade, with the revolution in digital cameras changing the way we record images. But with it has come a bewildering array of options for photographers to choose from. For travelling photographers the added issues of airport security and luggage weight limits make the choice of which - and how much - equipment to take on a trip even more critical, and the wrong choice can be a very expensive mistake. Chris Coe looks at some of the important issues which travelling photographers need to be aware of, from buying or upgrading equipment to how to shoot good quality images of your travels.

Rowing across the Indian Ocean - ALONE! By Sarah Outen

As her student contemporaries went off to sell their souls to the City, Sarah Outen prepared to head out to the ocean. The 24 year old was still studying at Oxford when she announced her plans to row solo across the Indian Ocean. Yes, she was a rowing nut but she had never rowed on anything more exciting than English rivers and she certainly had no boat or money to by one. However, she had energy, vision and a purpose. And she wasn't ever going to give up or let a recession stand in her way. Just getting to Australia was a mission in itself and many such expeditions never make it to the start.
